Pedro Interview - Part 4
'I do judo as an Olympic sport. The difference between judo and karate or
taekwondo is that there are no punches
and there are no kicks in judo. It's a grappling martial
art and there are basically four ways to win:
Throw your opponent one time onto his back, scoring
an ippon;
Pin your opponent, similar to wrestling;
Strangle your opponent until submission;
Armlock your opponent until submission.
When I came back from the World Championships and they announced on the
plane that I was world judo champion, I heard some lady in the back say,
"I didn't see anybody break any blocks with their head." It's just that
they have a big
misconception about what it is.'
