'Which Sport Is Sexier—Judo, or BJJ?'

How goes it! I have always been interested in the notion of erotic wrestling and, in the last few months, have developed a keen interest in your fantastic site, which has brought Brazilian jiu-jitsu to my attention now as well.

My question, then, is this: Bearing in mind that I'm new to the whole martial arts thing, which would be the best discipline for me to choose? Which sport is sexier: judo, or BJJ? From my perspective, this really isn't an easy question to answer.

Both options have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, judo has hip throws and groin grabs, which look pretty damn hot to me...

On the other hand, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is amazing when it comes to matwork. Furthermore, judging by all the photos and videos I've seen, both seem to possess an incredible capacity for homoeroticism.

I'm fortunate enough to live close to a sports center that offers classes in both judo and BJJ, but I'd like to see what you have to say to me before committing myself to either one of them. Any recommendation you could make would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Aaron's Answer to Your Problem: Sample the Distinctive Sexual Sensations of Both Sports Before Selecting Your Favorite

I'm a judo lover through and throughthere's just something about the look and feel of judogis, the build and bearing of judoka, and the sights and sounds of traditional dojos that elevate this sport to league of its own in terms of pure, unadulterated homoeroticism. Of course, there is much to be said for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with its extraordinary emphasis on ground fighting, and deliciously decadent insistence on mounting your opponent top to toe before forcing him into submission. BJJ's reputation as a means of sexual gratification is helped further still by judo’s ever-increasing reliance on standing techniques at the expense of groundworka change which has greatly diminished the art's appeal as as climax-inducing stimulus, at least within a formal setting.

But wait! Before you go rushing out to hand over all your hard-earned cash to some cute Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor, forsaking judo and its secret sexual katas without a backwards glance, take a moment to consider the fact that, however constrained it may be within the context of the dojo and the competition circuit, judo can become an entirely groundwork focused activity when practiced in private, complete with long, languid hold-downs and slow, sensual stranglesan attractive contrast to the sometimes-too-quick rolling of BJJ. And that's just regular judo: a variation of the art, Kosen judo, is almost entirely centered on the considerable pleasures of groundwork, thereby combining the intimate tactile intensity of BJJ with the aesthetic appeal of Kodokan judo.

Still not sure which sport to choose? There's an easy fix for that: Try each of them in turn!

Since your local recreation center has so kindly deigned to provide you with the opportunity to train both styles, why not take them up on it? Introductory classes are generally free of charge these days, which means you can sample a little of each art before making up your mind. I think you’ll find that judo has a beauty, simplicity, and grace to it that BJJ is unable to match, despite Dan O'Connell's protestations to the contrary in his BJJthe New Gay Judo essay.

To conclude, I should probably point out that, in a sexual setting i.e. a one-on-one matbattle with another gay grappler, it really doesn’t matter all that much which discipline you train; once you’re on all fours, in a gi, grappling with a gorgeous guy, the whole judo versus BJJ argument becomes pretty much academic.

Especially once the jackets start coming off...
